A homeowner shot and killed an apparent burglary suspect early Tuesday morning at a residence in southwest Houston.
The shooting happened about 1:30 a.m. in the 8500 block of Maplecrest Drive near Elmsworth Drive, said Ken Fregia, a homicide investigator with the Houston Police Department.
Fregia said the homeowner, identified as an Asian man, told investigators he was asleep but woke up when he heard the sound of glass breaking at his front door. He grabbed a gun and went to investigate. He saw a man breaking into the door and entering his home. He confronted him and fired several gunshots at him, wounding the suspect.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, dashed away after the gunshots but collapsed nearby. He died at the scene.
The homeowner, who was at the residence alone at the time of the shooting, was not hurt. He had recently moved into the residence.
